Today I'm 3!

Today I turned three years old, and the best part of the day was being reunited with Mom and Dad since their vacation is finally over (more on that in another post). After lots of kisses and tail wagging, I got down to the business at hand, celebrating my 3rd birthday!
We started off opening the prezzies right away! I just can't control myself when I'm opening gifts. He he!
YEAH, more gifts!
Last week, while I stayed at my Grandparents, they threw me a big old doggy birthday party. Grandma got me this giant tennis ball, which I destroyed in under 30 seconds!
Wow, what is this? Doggie brew for my 21st (in dog years) birthday! Too pawsome!
Now, I love a good nip of the yummy alcohol, but Mom wouldn't let me have a whole bottle. The Doggie Brew is actually a yummy beef broth that was so delicious!!!
Here's a look at the loot I got from my party last week and what I got from Mom and Dad today. I sure did pretty well!
The best part of the birthday, the CAKE! MMMMMmmmm, cake! (yellow cake of course, no chocolate for this pup)
How can you make me wait for my piece of cake? I WANT IT NOW!
Mmmmm cake, yummmmmmm.....
A huge thank you to my pals Lenny and Molly and Taffy for their pawsome cards. Thank you so much, they made my day!

Fun at Grandma & Grandpa's!

A couple of weekends ago, Mom, Dad and I packed up the car and headed off to Grandma and Grandpa's for the day. When I go to their house it is pure fun. They spoil me rotten and I get to run wild on their 10 acres, plus they have a lake to swim in. Wooo hoooh!

As soon as I arrived, I took off for a run in their yard. I'm a city dog, so they have got a lot of grass to run and graze on. He he!
My Uncle John is always willing to play with me, so he started to throw my ball around for me. I just love my Uncle John.
Even when everyone else started to go inside to eat, I still wanted to play with my Uncle. Can you see the concentration on my face. I really, really want him to throw the ball!
Of course, a dog can only play fetch for so long, so then I'm off to the lake for a swim. The geese weren't on the lake that day, which disappointed me. I love to chase the geese off the water.
This picture was taken when I was supposed to be getting in our car to head home, but I wanted to check out the creek that runs behind the lake. There's a beaver that lives back there, and I sooo want to catch him!
Ahhh, nothing beats spending time at my Grandparents house. I can't wait to go there and visit again!!

Doggie Egg Hunt & I got some ink!

This weekend, we went to the 6th annual Doggie Egg Hunt at a local park. According to the newspaper, over 125 dogs participated, and let me tell you it looked like there were more! There were so many dogs there, that we were limited to the amount of eggs we could find. We made sure we were at the front of the line to enter the egg hunt area, so I would get some prime eggs!

As soon as we were let in the hunt area, I took off sniffing for the goodness hidden inside those little plastic eggs!
Lots of dogs didn't know they had to pop open the egg to find the treat inside, but Mom has been practicing with me, so I was good t go!
There were mini dog bones in the eggs and they were delish!
Mom thought the wooden bunnies by the doors were so cute and wanted to get a picture with me and the bunny. Not so fast Mom, I don't want to stand here while there are so many dogs around!
OK, that's enough! I'm outta here, I've got so many dogs I need to meet!!
Oh, while I was hunting up some eggs, a photographer with the Chicago Sun Times was following me around, and guess what, my picture ended up in the Sunday paper (page 8)! Woo hooo! Here is the picture that was used, apparently not many dogs were opening the eggs on their own, so the photographer was quite impressed with me! Grandma was so proud when Mom told her I was in the paper, she said I got some ink, whatever that means! I just like being the most famous Kirby in Chicago. He he!!

Snowy Sunday

Today, I woke up to SNOW! I couldn't believe it, didn't spring already start? Should it look like a blizzard outside my window? No, I don't think so. Mom decided with the weather being yucky, we would share some pictures of last weekend, when the weather was NICE!

Last weekend the temperatures were in the 60's, so we decided to take a walk along Lake Michigan. I like to walk along the wall and look down at the water. Wish it was nice enough to go swimming.
What do you mean that I can't jump down and swim? I want to go swimming now!
At the halfway point, I decided to rest. Can't beat the views or all the other doggies who were out for walkies too.
OK, I'm ready to head back now. Maybe we could get a snack on our way home?
So, Mom and Dad did stop and get a snack on the way home. They got ice cream, and DIDN'T share with me. Mom said it was due to something about me needing to lose weight. Grrrrr. Look at how Dad was teasing me. Sigh, life just isn't fair.
I'm hoping today was the very last snow for the year. I can't wait until it is nice and warm and I can go swimming and get to eat ice cream! Hope you all had a nice weekend!

I met Keeley!

This weekend, I was invited to the birthday party of our very own Keeley! Not only was this my first time meeting Keeley, but it was my first time meeting a fellow DWB member. Woot woot!! I was a bit nervous when I arrived. Keeley had a whole bunch of friends there and I was hoping we would all get along...which we did! Keeley and I got along great! We played a whole bunch and had many bitey face matches. Ahhh, good times!

After a few hours outside playing, we all came in to eat and have cake. Well, the humans had cake and us dogs had super pawsome cookies! Then Keeley opened his presents. He sure scored a bunch of great toys and treats!! Below, we are all getting treats from Keeley's girl, Erin. Mmmm, treats!
Every dog got a goodie bag to take home, here's a picture of mine below. If you notice, my snout is in the bottom corner. I was trying to sneak a bite while Mom was busy taking the picture. He he!
After a day of fun and birthday games and the long drive to and from Milwaukee, I was pooped. I slept the whole ride home and the rest of the evening. Today, I'm still a bit tired too. It was one great party!
Thank you for including me in your pawty Keeley! I had a blast! I can't wait to meet you again in the fur!! Happy 3rd Birthday!!!!

Hanging with my pals

Dad has been backing up our computer and in the process 'lost' the latest photos of yours truly. So, this will be a photo-less post. I've had a busy couple of days with a bunch of my friends visiting. Last week, my new pal Tess came for a visit. Tess is being fostered by one of my Dad's friends. She is up for adoption at PAWS Chicago, a no-kill animal shelter. If you are from Chicago or nearby, check out their site, there are a ton of great doggies (and kitties) there that need good homes. In fact, Oprah just adopted her new dog from PAWS last week! Tess came over to play and socialize, and I was up for that! We ran and barked and played bitey face forever. I would say Tess is well socialized and may behave even better than myself! She will make someone a great dog!
Here's me and Tess tearing up the house. This little lady can play!

Isn't Tess cute?

Then, on Friday, Mom and Dad had some of our neighbors over for dinner and they all brought their pooches. Frank, the Basset Hound and Glenda the yellow Lab came for a night 'o' fun! We all ran around and acted crazy. Frank got up on the coffee table and stole some cheese and sausage...twice! Mom treated us all to some St. Patricks Day themed cookies and bones which we LOVED! We all played 'till we all passed out, the sign of a great outing.
Me and Glenda hanging out and hoping (OK I'm hoping) some pizza falls our way.

Hopefully Dad will get the pictures moved back onto the pooter, so you can all see my great friends! Once he fixes it, I'll post the pics.

Air Show Sunday

Just before lunch today, Mom put on my 'flames' bandanna and said lets go, we're off to the Chicago Air & Water Show. She said it was the 50th anniversary of the show, so it was supposed to be really good. Now, I don't care too much about planes, but I saw Mom slip a bully stick into her bag, so I was fine with wherever we were going and whatever we were doing. We walked up to the lakefront, so I was feeling fine after that nice long walkie! Mom found a nice shady spot where we could spread out and relax and enjoy the show. Then the waiting began. We waited nearly an hour for the first plane to come by us. While we waited we enjoyed a picnic, yeah sandwiches!
Then the planes began, there were really cool transport planes, and old time planes, then the F-22 Raptor came by. Woooh, that thing is loud, but so cool! It can just float in the air and flip around. Mom and Dad were so impressed, they had never seen anything like it.
After the raptor, the waiting game began again. Mom didn't want to leave until she saw the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, so we waited and waited. See, we did a lot of waiting cuz we were at Montrose Harbor, which is a few miles down the road from North Avenue Beach where the majority of the planes show their tricks. Only the super fast planes that need LOTS of air space come further north. We don't mind, cuz we wanted to avoid the 2 million plus people that would be closer to the beach. That's way too many people for this pooch! To keep me occupied while we waited, I GOT MY BULLY STICK! Woooh hoooh!!

So, I sat and happily munched. Then, there was a loud sound that scared me so much, that I left my bully and ran over to Mom. Mom sat there and clapped, apparently the Blue Angels had arrived, and they were LOUD! Each time they passed over, I got so scared.

I made Mom attach a video, you might not hear the sound so well, but take it from me, it was loud.

As soon as they were done, I was more then ready to leave. Mom had to pick up my bully and bring it home. I was that scared, I couldn't finish my bully! Can you believe it? I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and didn't have to suffer through loud noises!

Westfest 2008

This weekend was the annual Westfest in the trendy West Town neighborhood of Chicago. Since they have a section just for dogs called Petfest, we decided to check it out. We did go last year, but heard this year was bigger and better, so we were excited! Well, my personal opinion was that it was a bust, and Mom and Dad agreed. There were lots of doggies there, but very little things for dogs to do. They had a few swimming pools for the pooches to cool off in and an optional dog wash section (no thanks, thank goodness Mom had just put on my flea and tick preventative just before we left). Other than that there were a handful of dog store booths, but nothing great. We were all disappointed. Here are few pics we took.

The pool was nice and cool, but I am used to something bigger to swim in, like a lake. He he!
I figured since I couldn't swim in it, I would drink out of it. Ahh, so refreshing!
We met so many dogs, and Mom kept forgetting to take pictures, but she did manage to whip the camera out for this guy. I first walked past and then came in for a closer look. Mango? Mango, is that you?
You sure do look like my relentlessly huge pal, Mango. This guy, while super huge was so nice. Mom loved petting him. He just sat there like a good boy and let Mom pet him and give him a hug.

So, while not a great festival, I did have a good time meeting all of the dogs, Mom bought me a new collar and I got to share Mom's taco with her. Mmmmmmm, yummers! I hope you all had a great weekend. I'm off to catch up on my Olympic coverage.

Ice Cream!

Last night while we were out and about for out walkie, Mom and Dad stopped off at Margie's Candies and Ice Cream, a Chicago summertime favorite! Mom went in and ordered some frozen treats for her and Dad and one scoop of vanilla in a cup for me. Well you can understand Mom's shock when they handed her HUGE waffle cone with multiple scoops of vanilla in it. Mom explained that she needed a cup of ice cream, so they emptied the cone contents into a cup. Oh dog, I got lots and lots of ice cream let me tell you!

Mom and Dad made me wait for a minute before they would hand me the cup of ice cream. Apparently I was getting a bit over excited. He he! I was licking my chops in anticipation of the cool yummyness that was awaiting me.

Finally, they put the cup of ice cream down! Ahhhh, so cold, so yummy, this is what heaven is like, right? Mmmmmmmmmmm...

More mmmmmmmmmm, Mom get that camera away from me, I'm trying to eat here!
Is that it? Is it all gone? Dad, you look like you have some in your cone still? Care to share some of that shake Mom?
All in all, what a delicious treat. Mom wanted to point out the telltale signs of a well enjoyed treat. Notice the ice cream left in the beard. That's for a late night snack. And of course there is the ice cream remnants on the nose. Eventually my tongue made its way up there and all bits of ice cream disappeared!
I sure hope you all get some ice cream this weekend. It really does make a hot summer day so much better.

'Till next time,

Kirby
